Foot sore horse, has recently been shod and has a club foot..?

I have a tb x wb with a club foot, my farrier has done a brilliant job evening them out but he came 2 days ago for routine shoeing, he did say he's taken abit extra off and after he left I walked him back to field and he was almost tip toeing and looking lame, is this normal after having abit extra taken off as I thought I'd leave him to rest for a week or so and see how he is after that, just worried as he looks sore, any tips? Just want to know if he's just foot sore and its just rest he needs as there's no heat in legs or feet. Thanks
